LuLu’s obsession with art came from a young age, as she would often draw all over her parent’s house. So much so that her parents even started to hide the pens and crayons from her. LuLu is phenomenal artist, and has a fantastical, surreal style with both a brush and a mound of clay. She will depict strange, dark twisted images and sculptures, which perhaps give us a glimpse of her inner self, and a world of mystery and beautiful form. She seems to take human perfection in muscle and skin, and rip it to pieces showing her depth of work, and ability to work under what you can normally see, and what you would normally want to see. LuLu studied Technical Arts and Special Effects at Wimbledon Art College, UK which she claims to have been the most inspiring course ever! She moved into teaching, aiming to show the children her infectious love of art and design. However feeling restricted by the red tape and school curriculum she has now moved away from teaching, with a renewed vigour for her own art, and her own creations. “I am going to immerse myself in art, get a proper studio and do loads of illustration, painting and sculpture.” LuLu is recent addition to the Avalaan Familia and will support launch of the girls range for Spring/Summer 2009. EARLY YEARS, WHY DID YOU GET INTO WHAT YOU DO? I have always loved surrealism and weird pictures that have strange meanings, at the moment I feel I am only scratching the surface of what I want to get into and do with my artwork but this year is all about throwing myself into the weirdness completely ... :) HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE: A bit of a mish mash of the surreal, bizarre and the deeply thought. SUMMER ACTIVITIES: Bumbling around in my Camper 'Jefferson', chilling at festivals and painting painting painting : ) WINTER ACTIVITIES: Bit of snowboarding (when I can afford to get my skint arty self over there) drinking hot alcoholic substances round fires, in fires with fires......I love fire....hahahahahaha..... and more painting and drawing..... FAVOURITE TRICK: hmmmm.... am presuming you mean some kinda boarding/skating trick..... as am a malco-ordinated little monkey cant really say I can do any special tricks yet ...but I can make my mouth look like a big wet fish face : ) MUSIC: LemonJelly, The Orb, Fat Freddies Drop, Van Morrisson, Newton Faulkner, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Jonny Cash, Feist, Postal Service and a whole host of other stuff.....
